He won a second term with nearly 94.65% of the vote
As expected, Abdelmadjid Tebboune was re-elected president of Algeria by an overwhelming majority.
The outgoing president only had to contend with two other candidates: Abdelali Hassani, leader of the Society for Peace (MSP), an Islamist party and faction of the country’s Muslim Brotherhood, which represents the largest opposition force in parliament with 64 seats, received only 3.17%, while Youssef Aouchiche of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS) received 2.16%.
This was officially announced on September 8, at the end of the counting of votes, by Mohamed Charfi, president of the Algerian electoral body (ANIE). Turnout announced on September 7, when the polls closed, was 48%. Of the 5.5 million registered votes, 5.3 million chose incumbent President Tebboune, who received 94.65% of the vote.
