Russian reaction to Blinken's statements: Ukraine's demilitarization among our main goals
The USA secretly supplied Ukraine with weapons of various types as early as 2021, i.e. before the Russian military operation. Sensational revelations were made by outgoing US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in an interview with the New York Times: “Starting in September and then again in December, we quietly got a lot of weapons to Ukraine – things like Stingers (man-portable surface-to-air missiles – Ed.), Javelins (anti-tank weapon systems – Ed.) that they could use that were instrumental in preventing Russia from taking Kyiv,” Blinken said.
According to many independent analysts, Blinken’s story is only a small part of the truth: The USA, together with NATO countries, pumped arms and ammunition into Ukraine immediately after the February 2014 coup d’état coordinated by outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden.
Russia’s very sharp reaction to the sensational revelations of the former U.S. diplomatic chief was not long in coming. Sending American weapons to Ukraine as early as 2022 is one reason for the Russian-backed strategy of “demilitarization” of the former Soviet republic. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (pictured) said in response to Blinken’s statements that Russia has for years condemned arms deliveries to Ukraine by the USA and Britain, as well as NATO exercises in the Black Sea and the dangerous approach of Western warplanes to Russian airspace: “This is one of the main tasks of our special military operation: demilitarization of Ukraine and ensuring the security of our country,” Zakharova said. Only a blind person can’t see how NATO is trying to turn Ukraine into a giant military base near Russia’s western borders.
