It will transport gas produced from the Vaca Muerta fields
With the completion of the last section near Cordoba, Argentina’s second most populous city, the Northern Gas Pipeline has been completed, which will bring natural gas produced in the Vaca Muerta basin to the country’s northern provinces and thus to Brazil.
The infrastructure that for many years allowed the import of gas from Bolivia has been modified and today will allow the reverse flow, with some modifications that will allow the export of gas to Brazil. For the South American country, constantly struggling with an endless economic crisis, this means saving, according to the Italian news agency ANSA, 20 billion dollars on imports, and the strategic resource will start to be sold across the border.
The total cost of the work was $740 million. Javier Milei’s plans for the Vaca Muerta field also include the construction of a liquefied natural gas plant in Rio Negro province to further increase export capacity. Vaca Muerta will be the second largest shale gas field in the world.
