Meetings in the Kremlin of Vladimir Putin with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan
A window has opened to achieve a political solution to the centuries-old conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the two former Soviet republics of the Caucasus. Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan (pictured) expressed hope that “the provisions of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan will be signed within a month.” In an interview with German media on the sidelines of the Armenian President’s participation in the conference on sustainable development in Hamburg (Germany), he said: “Yerevan hopes Baku will sign all agreed articles of the peace agreement before the COP 29 climate change conference to be held in the Azerbaijani capital from November 11 to 22.” Khachaturyan emphasized that “Yerevan would immediately sign the peace treaty if it depended only on the Armenian side.”
To pave the way for a stable and lasting peace between the two Caucasus republics, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold two bilateral meetings with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the Kremlin on Tuesday, October 8. According to Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov, “problems related to the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be discussed in light of Russia’s mediation, which, despite everything, continues to play a positive and active role in this delicate process.”
