Vladimir Putin: “Taiwan is an integral and inalienable part of the People's Republic of China”
As the first world power to send a congratulatory message to Vladimir Putin after his convincing presidential victory in Russia, the Communist Party of China today praised the re-election of the Russian president as it “brings confidence to a troubled world.”
This was stated by the Global Times newspaper, “the voice” of the Communist Party of China. “The outcome of Russia’s presidential election has brought certainty to a troubled world, as Vladimir Putin’s victory demonstrates that the Russian people widely support his government and Russia’s policies and stance on key issues, such as the crisis in Ukraine,” the Chinese newspaper wrote.
From the perspective of developing strategic relations between China and Russia, Putin’s re-election “will also give certainty to the future development of relations between Beijing and Moscow, as the consensus reached in previous years by the top leaders of the two countries will be actualized and further promoted.”
Immediately after the announcement of the results of the election, which Putin won with about 88% of the vote, the re-elected Russian president said that Russia has always been loyal to the One China policy and will remain so in the future: “China’s enemies are constantly trying to organize provocations around the issue of Taiwan, which is undoubtedly an integral and inalienable part of the People’s Republic of China. Without a doubt, all efforts to slow China’s development are doomed to failure,” Putin said during a meeting with a group of activists from his campaign headquarters.
The publication of the editorial by the Chinese Communist Party newspaper followed a congratulatory message sent to Putin by his counterpart Xi Jinping, in which he stated that the presidential election “fully reflects the colossal support of the Russian people” for the President of the Russian Federation. “I believe that under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, Russia can make further progress in national development and construction,” Xi Jinping wrote in his message to the Russian leader. “China,” he added, “attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations with Russia and is willing to maintain close contacts with Moscow to promote the long-term, healthy, stable, and deepening development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era, for the benefit of the two countries and their peoples,” the Chinese president finally emphasized.
