Brazil, United Arab Emirates: Strengthening Strategic Partnership

Trade turnover between Brazil and the United Arab Emirates in 2023 reached 4.4 billion dollars

Mauro Vieira

Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira arrived on an official visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Vieira will try to give impetus to the strategic partnership between Brazil and the Gulf countries; he will be received by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meeting “will discuss strengthening economic and commercial cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, energy, defense, agriculture, science and technology, as well as regional and global issues.”

Vieira’s trip comes in the context of this year’s celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and the United Arab Emirates. After arriving in Abu Dhabi, the Brazilian diplomatic chief said that “the two countries are cooperating on the climate agenda, taking into account the programmatic results of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28), held last year in Dubai, and the organization of the COP 30, scheduled for 2025 in Belém, Brazil.”

In 2023, trade between Brazil and the United Arab Emirates reached $4.4 billion, with Brazil’s surplus totaling $2 billion. The talks between the Brazilian delegation and Abu Dhabi representatives will summarize the progress made so far in the negotiations for a free trade agreement between the United Arab Emirates and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), launched in July 2024.
