BRICS countries should intensify cooperation “to safeguard common interests and strengthen international equality and justice”
Faced with contemporary challenges and threats to regional and international security, the BRICS countries need to adopt a special long-term program and strengthen cooperation to “inject positive energy into the turbulent international situation.” During the 14th BRICS Summit on Regional and Global Security (St. Petersburg, Russia), Wang put forward a series of proposals to “build a world of lasting peace and universal security,” which should “include strengthening solidarity among BRICS members and broad coordination in regional and global initiatives.”
In this context, the Chinese diplomatic chief reiterated Beijing’s willingness to cooperate with all BRICS partners “to safeguard the common interests of developing countries and protect international equality and justice.” One of the challenges is the war in Gaza, a dossier in which the BRICS countries must try to find a “permanent solution to the Palestinian question.” Regarding the war in Ukraine, Wang Yi reiterated “support for a political solution.”
The next BRICS Heads of State and Government Summit will be held in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24. The summit will also be attended by delegations from more than 40 countries around the world that have announced their intention to join this influential international group, which currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
