Cardinal Zuppi is in the US, where he will meet with President Biden: at the center of the dialogue is peace in Ukraine, which the Vatican is trying to introduce in the agenda of the great powers of this world.
“It is reported that on July 17-19, 2023, Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, accompanied by an officer of the State Secretariat, will visit Washington DC as an envoy of the Holy Father Francis,” the Vatican Press Office note says.
Zuppi’s visit should be understood in the “context of the mission to promote peace in Ukraine, the purpose of which is to exchange ideas and views on the tragic current situation and support initiatives in the field of humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the most fragile and vulnerable people, particularly children.”
In the past weeks, Zuppi, on behalf of the Holy Father, visited first Ukraine and then Russia on the same mission.
