China seeks to further strengthen political, economic, commercial, and cultural cooperation with African countries. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the announcement after being received in Brazzaville by the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou-Nguesso (pictured).

The talks centered on plans to implement agreements reached at the recent Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), co-chaired by China and the Republic of Congo. Wang emphasized that “the Forum plays an important role in promoting Africa’s economic and social development, improving the living standards of Africans. The forum has become a symbol of China-Africa solidarity and cooperation, a banner of cooperation among countries in the global South and a model of international cooperation with Africa,” the Chinese diplomatic chief said.

As recalled by the Chinese media, which has devoted much attention to covering Wang’s African tour (Namibia, Republic of Congo, Chad, and Nigeria), “in the 25 years since the establishment of FOCAC, China has helped Africa build more than 100,000 kilometers of highways, more than 10,000 kilometers of railroads, 1,000 bridges and nearly 100 ports.” Between 2022 and 2024 alone, China created “more than one million new jobs” in Africa.

For his part, President Sassou-Nguesso thanked China for its commitment to “implementing numerous projects” related to improving living conditions in Africa, including numerous initiatives aimed at providing food, water, and education. “This benefits millions and millions of people across the continent,” Sassou-Nguesso emphasized.
