President Xi Jinping and Dmitry Medvedev summit in Beijing. In Moscow, Vladimir Putin meets at a Security Council meeting on the development of the defense industry
Russian President Vladimir Putin convened an operational meeting with permanent members of the Security Council on Friday, December 13, with the absence of the vice president of the Security Council and former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who has been on a working visit to China for the past few days.
At the beginning of the closed-door meeting, which was televised for several minutes, Putin suggested discussing “further development of the defense industry,” while the second part of the meeting was devoted to the strategy to counter extremism in the country. Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov made a report on the first topic, followed by Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev.
During a summit in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Medvedev said the crises in Ukraine and Taiwan were “artificially provoked with the participation of the destructive forces of the USA and the European Union.” According to Medvedev, “however, adventures detached from reality sooner or later end in military failures, and rebellious provinces return home again.”
In turn, Xi Jinping emphasized that China would continue to “work with the international community to create favorable conditions for a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine.” The Chinese president said that in the Ukrainian issue, China “has repeatedly emphasized the need to adhere to three principles,” namely, not to allow the battlefield to expand, not to allow escalation, and not to “add fuel to the fire” by constantly supplying the Kiev regime with weapons and ammunition.
