Egypt: Consumer Prices Keep Rising but Slow Down

Egypt's annual urban consumer price inflation rose slightly to 26.5%, up from 26.4% in September

Egypt’s inflation rate rose to 26.3% year-on-year in October, an increase of 0.3% from September’s figure. According to data released by the Egyptian Central Agency for Statistics (CAPMAS), the inflation rate for October this year is significantly lower than the rate for the same period in 2023, when the inflation rate was 38.5 percent.

More specifically, Egypt’s annual urban consumer price inflation rose slightly to 26.5% in October 2024, up from 26.4% in September. Prices for food products and beverages rose 26.9% year-on-year. In the group of cereals and bread, prices increased by 36.7%, in the meat and poultry group by 19.7%, and in the fish and seafood group by 21.9%. Prices for dairy products, cheese, and eggs rose by 29.9%, oils and fats by 14.9%, fruits by 28.5%, and vegetables by 39.1%.
