Excellent result on the surplus in the European Union’s foreign trade as of July 2024: according to preliminary estimates by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), the surplus amounted to €21.2 billion in goods trade in July 2024, triple the €6.7 billion in July 2023.
The surplus decreased compared to June 2024 (from €21.7 to €21.2 billion) due to larger deficits in trade in energy (from €22.6 to €25.3 billion) and raw materials (from €2.3 to €2.8 billion) and lower trade in a number of manufacturing products (from €2.6 to €1.0 billion). This is partly offset by an increase in the surplus of chemical and related products (from €20.7 to €25.1 billion).
Eurozone merchandise exports totaled €252 billion in July, up 10.2% compared to July 2023 (€228.6 billion). In the same period, imports totaled €230.8 billion, up 4.0% compared to July 2023 (€221.9 billion).
