Eurozone: Inflation 2.4%, Unemployment 6.3%

The Statistical Office of the European Union (EUROSTAT) has published the latest estimates of inflation and unemployment.

According to preliminary estimates, annual inflation in the eurozone amounted to 2.4% in December, compared to 2.2% in November. In terms of the components of inflation, services are rising (4.0% compared to 3.9% in November), followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco at 2.7%, stable compared to November, while non-energy goods are up 0.5% compared to 0.6% in November. Finally, energy: 0.1% in December compared to -2.0% in November.

As for unemployment in the eurozone, the seasonally adjusted rate was 6.3% in November, stable compared to October and lower than the 6.5% in November 2023. The EU unemployment rate is 5.9% in November 2024, down from 6.1% in November 2023. According to Eurostat, in November 2024, there were 12.968 million unemployed in the EU (10.819 million in the eurozone), 16,000 fewer in the EU and 39,000 fewer in the eurozone. Compared to November 2023, unemployment in the EU fell by 295,000 and in the eurozone by 333,000.
