The party that now governs Georgia has won the elections. This was announced by the country’s election commission, explaining that when the counting of ballots was almost over, Georgian Dream had won more than 54% of the votes. Opposition parties “Coalition for Change and Unity” and “National Movement” will take the second and third places with just over 10% of the votes.
The October 26 elections were the first to be held using electronic ballot boxes, and the commission’s reported turnout was 58.94%. Three opposition parties, pro-Western and in favor of Georgia’s rapprochement with the European Union, said they would not recognize the election results.
