The Monetary Fund canceled consultations with the Russian government
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has decided to “indefinitely postpone” planned consultations with Russia on its economic situation. In Moscow’s view, this is a form of “brazen boycott.” “Everything was ready in Russia to receive the IMF delegation, which was due to arrive in the Russian capital on September 16,” said Alexei Mozzhin, executive director of the IMF’s Russia Department.
A delegation of the Monetary Fund headed by Annette Kyobe, Head of the Representative Office in Russia, was to visit Russia to discuss the current situation and prospects for the country’s economic and financial development with the heads of the Government and the Central Bank of Moscow. The American news agency Bloomberg, citing its sources, wrote that France, Belgium, and Poland, supported by the three former Soviet Baltic republics (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia), opposed any consultations between the IMF and Russia.
