Israel, Attack on Iran: Military Structures Affected

Tehran: “A clear violation of international law and of Iran's territorial integrity and national sovereignty”

The Israeli army (IDF) attacked Iran on the night of October 25-26. According to Israeli media, the air raids lasted more than three hours and hit military bases, air defense systems, missile production plants, and ground-based missile launchers on the outskirts of Iran’s capital, Tehran, as well as the cities of Khuzestan and Ilam.

The IDF explained that this was in response to Iranian attacks on Israel over the past few months, and the mission is considered “accomplished” unless Iran decides to counterattack in turn. The attack, various Israeli sources wrote, involved more than 100 aircraft, including the latest generation of F-35s, which hit about 20 targets. The attack was preceded by raids on Syria and Iraq to weaken air defenses, to “blind” radars.

According to news reports coming out of Tehran via Tansim news agency, the damage caused is limited as the defense responded quickly to the attack. The same agency reports an “informed source,” which explains that Iran is ready to respond to Israeli attacks and reserves the right to do so. “There is no doubt that Israel will receive an appropriate response to any move,” the source explained.

The Foreign Ministry announced that “Iran has a legitimate right to self-defense under the United Nations Charter and is also obliged to defend the country against any foreign aggression.” The attacks by the “Zionist regime” are “a clear violation of international law and Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.”

Saudi Arabia condemned the attack, which is a “violation of Iranian sovereignty” and international laws, calling on all parties to exercise maximum moderation and also urging the international community to act in favor of de-escalation.

The United States defined the attack as “self-defense” and explained that by doing so it should end the exchange of gunfire between the two countries. Washington also said it was not involved in the attack, which was carried out solely against military targets far from population centers.

According to the Iranian army, two soldiers were killed in the attacks.
