In the first eight months of the year, Italian agri-food exports to Russia grew by 21 percent
In the first eight months of 2024, Italian agri-food exports increased by 8% year-on-year, in contrast to Italy’s overall difficult foreign trade situation, suffering from the effects of the trade war in the Europe-Russia triangle. China is experiencing various international tensions, including the division of the world into blocs, and has seen significant movement stagnation (-0.6%).
According to a new report by Coldiretti, which is the largest organization of agricultural entrepreneurs at Italian and European national level with 1.6 million members, the value of food exports “made in Italy” exceeded 45 billion euros between January and August 2024. According to Coldiretti experts, thanks to this exceptional performance, there is a real possibility of reaching 70 billion euros of agri-food exports by the end of the year.
“The most significant growth,” the analysts write, “was recorded towards non-EU countries, with +14%, while Italian agri-food exports to the EU only increased by about 4% in the first eight months of the year.
In this context,” Coldiretti’s analysis writes, “the period January-August 2024 saw a real surge in Italian agri-food exports to Russia, increasing by more than 21% compared to the corresponding period of 2023.”
In China, growth was more modest: +17%, following US imports, which rose 19 percent. The main market for Italian food products remains Germany, which increased imports of Italian agricultural products by 3.6%.
