Meeting with Biden, Xi Jinping: “Important Dialog, Rivalry Should Not Become Main Logic of Our Time”

Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden meet on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima, Peru, on November 16.

Xi Jinping explained that in the past four years, China-US relations have experienced ups and downs, but they have had fruitful dialog and cooperation, although the overall relationship has remained stable.

The Chinese President emphasized the importance of 45 years of diplomatic relations and that when two countries treat each other as partners and friends, they seek common ground by putting aside differences and helping each other succeed, rather than engaging in fierce competition or trying to harm each other.

“Humanity is facing unprecedented challenges in this turbulent world, which is plagued by frequent conflicts in which new problems are added to old ones,” Xi Jinping explained, as quoted by Xinhua News Agency. “Competition between large countries should not be the main logic of the times; only solidarity and cooperation can help humanity overcome the current difficulties. In an era characterized by a new cycle of growing scientific and industrial revolutions, neither unbundling nor disrupting supply chains is the solution.”

Biden explained: with Xi Jinping, “we didn’t always agree, but our dialog was always frank. And I think that’s important. These conversations avoid miscalculations and ensure that the competition does not escalate into conflict,” said the media in Lima.

Xi Jinping also stated he was willing to “work with the new US administration to maintain and expand ties and overcome differences,” the Chinese leader said, according to Bloomberg News.
