The event takes place in the UAE city from December 4 to 8, 2024
A film festival designed to support culture and dialog in turbulent times around the world. To complete the preparations for the XVII Eurasian Economic Forum, held in Ras Al Khaimah (United Arab Emirates), December 5 and 6, a Film Festival dedicated to Italian and Russian cinema was organized by the New Italian Cinema Event (N.I.C.E), created by the New Italian Association, in collaboration with the famous Russian film studio Mosfilm, attended by the director and general director Karen Shakhnazarov. The review includes the films “Mixed by Erry” by Sydney Sibilia, “The Courier” by Karen Shakhnazarov, “Gloria” by Margherita Vicario, “Zamora” by Neri Marcorè, “White Tiger” by Karen Shakhnazarov, “The Moscow Slums” by Karen Shakhnazarov, “Victory” by Alessandro Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman, “There’s Still Tomorrow” by Paola Cortellesi, and “Jazzmen” by Karen Shakhnazarov.
Professor Antonio Fallico, President of the Conoscere Eurasia Association, which organized the event:
“Dear cinema friends!
It is a great pleasure and honor for me to participate in the opening of an important cultural event that aims to bring to Ras Al Khaimah a small portion of cinema from countries far from your latitudes, each full of incomparable artistic richness. I thank the Emirati authorities for the opportunity to implement this initiative and for their support.
Starting today, a major traveling event, the N.I.C.E. Festival of New Italian Cinema, is moving here, to the shores of the Gulf.
Created in 1991, it offers to the international public the first works of young Italian directors that present the evolution of Italian cinema, the country itself, society, and the problems that shake it. A total of 5 films by young Italian directors are scheduled for the festival.
At the same time, you will have the opportunity to discover four works by one of the classics of Soviet and Russian cinema, the great director Karen Shakhnazarov. Why this choice? It is he who today runs Russia’s largest film company, Mosfilm, which turns 100 years old in 2024. This short retrospective is a fitting tribute to this famous endeavor.
We hope that through our initiative, the Emirati public will have the opportunity to simultaneously discover the diverse and complementary international cinematic realities to gain a new perspective on the larger world around us.
Dear friends,
The Conoscere Eurasia non-profit Italian association is proud to promote this cultural event that allows a wide audience to learn more about Italian and Russian cinema. In these turbulent times, quality cinema offers a light of hope and solace, supports the intellect, establishes and promotes dialog between our countries, and helps us understand each other. Authentic culture elevates and enriches human beings.
Promoting international cultural events is a very important part of our daily activities, it is one of our civic and moral duties to our partners in the Greater Eurasia, enclosed between the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
The movie nights we offer in Ras Al Khaimah open with the comedy “Mixed by Erry.” It is about the adventure of pirate music production in Naples at the end of the last century. I won’t tell you anything else about the movie: you’ll discover it in a few minutes, and I’m sure you’ll love it.
Thank you and enjoy watching it.”
