A fourth consecutive defeat in the Republican primary cost Nikki Haley dearly. And not in a figurative sense. One of the major donors to the Republican presidential candidate, Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFP Action), has announced that it will stop funding the campaign of the former US envoy to the United Nations after Haley’s “crushing defeat” in the South Carolina primary.
AFP Action is the political wing of the conservative network headed by billionaire Charles Koch. According to US newspapers, “the decision to stop funding Haley’s campaign was communicated via an internal memo.” The final straw was Haley’s defeat on Saturday, February 24, in the state of which she had been governor for more than six years. AFP Action announced that financial resources will instead be focused on funding campaigns to renew the House and Senate. In other words, “moral support yes, dollars no,” AFP Action reiterated its “own support” for Haley’s White House candidacy.
