The former president and his wife have decided to support the incumbent US vice president as the Democratic Party's nominee for the November 5, 2024 presidential election
All that was missing was Barack Obama’s “blessing” of Kamala Harris’s fight for the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential election to be finalized.
And, although long awaited, it has finally arrived. “Michelle and I are very proud to support you and do everything we can to help you win this election and get into the Oval Office,” was how former President Barack Obama expressed his support for Kamala Harris in a phone call. On the same wavelength is his wife Michelle, who has been rumored in recent weeks for a candidacy that never came to fruition and which the former first lady probably never wanted.
Michelle Obama further wrote on X social media, referring to Harris: “Barack and I are so excited to support her as the Democratic nominee because of her positivity, sense of humor, and ability to bring light and hope to people across the country.” The Vice President readily accepted the Obama couple’s offer and thanked them for their support, also explaining that she is grateful for a friendship that has lasted for many years.
Obama’s endorsement is the latest vote of confidence in Kamala Harris, as Joe Biden pointed out when he decided on July 21 to drop out of the next presidential election after a disastrous televised debate against Donald Trump and subsequent pressure from his party. The party is now firmly behind Harris, who will attempt to become the first female president of the USA.
