Pope Francis at the Gemelli Hospital to Undergo Stomach Surgery

Pope Francis has been admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where he is in for a surgery scheduled for the next few days.

“In the afternoon, he will undergo a laparotomy and abdominal wall plastic surgery with a prosthesis under general anesthesia,” reports the Holy See.

The Holy Father arrived at the Rome clinic late in the morning after a general audience and, according to the Holy See press service, “he will have an operation under general anesthesia for laparotomy and abdominal wall plastic surgery with a prosthesis.”

The pontiff has been hospitalized for several days to ensure an optimal postoperative course. At the end of March, he was already hospitalized for several days due to bronchitis, and in July 2021 he was operated on the colon in the same Gemelli clinic.
