Pope Francis: “People Ask for Peace”

Another call by Pope Francis for peace as international conflicts continue to flare up.

“Brothers and sisters, let us continue to pray for peace. Unfortunately, tensions are very high on the war fronts. Let the voice of the people asking for peace be heard. Let’s not forget the tortured Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Myanmar, many countries at war. Let us pray for peace.” These were the words, pronounced by the Pontiff at the end of the Angel of the Lord prayer on Sunday, September 22.

Earlier, the Holy Father spoke about the murder of Juan Antonio Lopez, a human rights activist close to Trujillo Bishop Jenry Ruiz. “I was saddened to learn that Juan Antonio Lopez, delegate of the Word of God, coordinator of the social pastoral care of the Diocese of Trujillo and founding member of the pastoral care of Integral Ecology in Honduras, was murdered in Honduras,” Francis explained. “I join in the mourning of this Church and in the condemnation of all forms of violence. I am close to all those who see their basic rights being trampled upon and to those who work for the common good by answering the calls of the poor of the land.”
