The United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen strategic partnership in sustainable finance
United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will visit the United States, where he will be received in two separate meetings on Monday, September 23, by outgoing President Joe Biden and Vice President and Democratic Party candidate for the next US elections Kamala Harris.
John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the US National Security Council, told reporters: “This will be a historic visit, as it will be the first visit to Washington by a president of the United Arab Emirates.” The meetings, Kirby explained, will focus on a range of bilateral, international, and regional topics, from the wars in Gaza and Sudan to strengthening bilateral strategic cooperation in high-tech, energy transition, space, critical infrastructure, and global supply chains.
Earlier, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Emirates Financial Services Authority, headquartered in Dubai, signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen their strategic partnership in sustainable finance. As China’s state-run Xinhua news agency wrote, “the organizations held their first joint conference with a focus on financing operations to address climate change.” The event, which is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), commonly known as the New Silk Road, was attended by more than 240 representatives from banks, financial companies, and international organizations with offices in Hong Kong and Dubai. The event, titled “Building a Zero Emissions Asia-Middle East Corridor,” was designed to attract investment in building new global supply routes based on the principles of a secure energy transition.
