President Vladimir Putin's address to the nation and the world after a strike on Russian territory by US and British missiles
Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the Russian armed forces and the entire nation after two days of shelling of the Russian regions of Kursk and Bryansk by US-made ATACMS and British-made Storm Shadow missiles.
Following are the highlights of the Russian president’s televised address:
Russian military facilities in the Bryansk and Kursk regions were attacked by Western missiles.
The conflict in Ukraine, orchestrated by the USA, has gone global after Western missiles attacked the Russian Federation.
The goals set by the enemy when Western long-range missiles hit the Russian Federation were not achieved.
The use of long-range weapons by the enemy against the Russian Federation cannot affect the course of the special operation.
Russian Federation attacked the Yuzhmash plant in Dnepropetrovsk with a nuclear-free hypersonic ballistic missile called Oreshnik (Hazel-wood).
The Russian military has launched a combined attack on Ukraine’s military-industrial complex in response to US and British military strikes against Russia.
The use of the Oresnik is in response to US plans to produce and deploy medium- and short-range missiles.
Russia will undoubtedly and decisively respond to escalation.
There is currently no means of countering Russia’s hypersonic Oreshnik missiles.
The Oreshnik system was a response to the US decision to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missile Elimination Treaty.
The estimated range of the Oreshnik missile, arriving at the target at 3 kilometers per second, is up to 5000 kilometers – that’s any target in Europe, including London.
Russia will decide on further deployment of medium- and short-range missiles depending on the actions of the enemy.
Russia prefers peaceful means, but is also ready for any development, “there will always be an answer.”
Russia believes it has the right to use weapons against military installations of countries that allow their weapons to be used against Russia.
The West should “think carefully” about plans to allow attacks deep inside Russia.
When we select, if necessary and as a retaliatory measure, targets for destruction by the Oreshnik systems within Ukraine, we will actively invite civilians, as well as ask citizens of friendly nations there, to leave dangerous areas. We will be doing it openly, publicly. Unafraid of the opponent who is also getting information. Why unafraid? Because there are no countermeasures. Modern air defense systems do not intercept such missiles.
