Two important positions in Syria's interim administration have been entrusted to women
The new Syria will not be a source of trouble for any other country, and the authorities will guarantee the security of the region for at least the next fifty years. This was stated by Ahmed Al Sharaa (known as Abu Muhammad Al Jolani), head of the General Command of the new Syrian administration and leader of the Salafist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), in an interview with Saudi television station Al Arabiya.
“In the process of liberating Syria, great care was taken to avoid casualties or displacement. We have done our best to ensure that the transfer of power goes smoothly,” Al Jolani emphasized, calling on Iran to “reconsider its policy in the region.”
Regarding the democratic process in Syria, A Jolani said that organizing elections could take up to three to four years: “Any proper electoral process requires a complete census, and even that will take time,” Al Jolani said, adding that “drafting a new constitution could take about three years.” The head of the post-Assad administration said that in this regard, “a National Dialogue Conference will be convened to bring together all components of Syrian society and form specific technical commissions.”
Meanwhile, the new Syrian administration continues to appoint interim government ministers. The General Command of the new Syrian administration has confirmed the appointment of General Murhaf Abu Qasra, a leading opposition figure, as defense minister in the new transitional government.
In addition, the new Syrian administration announced the appointment of Maysaa Sabrine (pictured) as the head of the Central Bank of Syria. Maysaa Sabrine, who will be the first woman to occupy the position, has in the past held important positions at the Central Credit Institute, including First Deputy Governor. Another woman, Aisha al Dibas, was appointed head of the Women’s Affairs Directorate. That is, two women will take official positions in the new Syrian administration led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham.
Meanwhile, the new Syrian administration continues to meet with representatives of the international community, who have called on HTS leader Al Jolani to “adopt an inclusive approach” not only with regard to gender equality, but also with regard to ethnic and religious minorities. As part of the internationalization process, Foreign Minister of the Transitional Syrian Government Asaad Shaibani received an official invitation from Saudi Arabia’s head of diplomacy, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, to visit the Kingdom. “I am delighted to accept this invitation and honored to represent my country in my first official visit. We look forward to building strategic relations with our brothers in Saudi Arabia in all fields,” Asaad Shaibani said.
