Trump has become the first former president to be investigated at the federal level.
Trump asserted this himself and is now facing the second indictment in a few months (the first is related to the payment to porn star Stormy Daniels), and, most importantly, this creates a precedent: he is the first former president to be investigated at the federal level.
“I am an innocent person,” Donald Trump wrote on his Truth social network. “The Biden administration is completely corrupt. This is election meddling and the continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time. Make America Great Again!”
And again, “They’re not after me, they’re after you – I’m just trying to stop them.”
The accusations include violation of the Espionage Act: the former number one of the White House actually deliberately withheld documents of national interest without passing them to the relevant leaders. In total, according to US media, there will be 7 counts, including conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and false statements.
The investigation began in 2021 when Trump failed to hand over to the White House all the documents he was supposed to have in possession. This led to a series of controversies and then the famous FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago last year. Now the indictment is expected.
