The Republican candidate for US president wants to create a “Space National Guard”
Donald Trump has said that if re-elected to the US presidency, he will create the Space National Guard and, in addition to the wall on the border with Mexico, he will order the construction of an Iron Dome, from the name of air defense systems in service in Israel, around the entire US national territory.
Trump, former US president (2016-2020) and Republican Party candidate for the November 5 US presidential election, said this in a speech delivered at the US National Guard Association conference in Detroit on Monday, August 26 (Tuesday, August 27 in Europe). Trump emphasized, among other things, that he was “especially proud” that during his presidency he ordered the creation of the Sixth Branch of the US Armed Forces, the Space Force, in 2019.
“One of my proudest achievements in my first term was to create Space Force, the first new branch of the armed forces in over 70 years,” Trump said, adding: “Now that Space Force is up and running, I agree that the time has come to create a Space National Guard as the primary combat reserve of the US Space Force.”
As for the specific implementation of this program, which would require a significant increase in U.S. defense spending, Trump has promised to equip the USA with a widespread missile defense system similar to the one Israel has. “We’re going to build a great Iron Dome for missile defense around our nation,” Trump said.
