All appeals by those excluded were denied, the final official announcement will be made on September 3, voting will take place on October 6
Only three candidates have qualified for Tunisia’s presidential election. In addition to current President Kais Saied, the others running are: Zouhair Maghzaoui, secretary general of the social-democratic and pan-Arabist Echaab movement, and Ayachi Zammel, leader of the Azimoun political movement, founded only in 2022.
Tunisia’s Administrative Court announced that it has rejected all seven appeals filed by candidates suspended from the elections that President Kais Saied has announced for October 6, 2024.
The appeals were filed by Neji Jalloul, Abdellatif Mekki, Mondher Zenaïdi (a former protégé of President Ben Ali), Imed Daïmi, Abir Moussi, one of the most powerful opposition figures jailed since October 3, 2023, and Béchir Aouadi. The final list of candidates will be approved on September 3, and those excluded will have the opportunity to file an additional appeal.
