The United Arab Emirates is one of the most important players in the political arena of the Middle East, Greater Eurasia, and the world. This was the conclusion reached by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer (pictured), who is on a working visit to the Arab country. During the Abu Dhabi summit, the sides focused on ways to strengthen ties between the two countries to promote the economic and social development of both countries and their peoples.

Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Keir Starmer reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation and joint efforts in the coming period, building on the historic ties that unite the UAE and the United Kingdom. Regional and international issues of mutual interest certainly could not be excluded from the summit’s agenda, with a focus on the latest developments in Syria. The two leaders emphasized their countries’ commitment to resolving current and future crises through dialogue and diplomacy.

The talks between Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Keir Starmer were preceded by a telephone conversation between the President of the United Arab Emirates and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who discussed with the Sheikh the situation and possible developments in Syria, as well as the implications of the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for the Middle East and the world at large. “We discussed possible scenarios and implications for the region and beyond. We agreed to keep in close contact,” von der Leyen said after speaking with the UAE president.
