Before “fading into history,” Biden doles out billions of dollars to Ukraine and a separatist island
Money from American taxpayers left and right; anyway, in a month Joe Biden, as they say in America, will “fade into history” (simply put, will no longer be important, significant, or interesting).
After announcing a $1.2 billion financial package for Ukraine that will be part of the so-called Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), outgoing President Joe Biden approved a $571.3 million military aid package to Taiwan.
In a brief statement that didn’t give many details, the White House said the package would include “defense goods and services, military training activities,” among other things. Just under three months ago, the Biden administration had already authorized a similar $567 million package.
The decision came after Taiwan accused China of conducting the largest military exercises in the region in years, with some 90 warships deployed between Japan’s southern islands and the South China Sea. However, Beijing has not officially confirmed the maneuvers, which came after a lengthy trip to Pacific Rim countries by Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te.
