USA: Democratic Party Voting for Kamala Harris Begins

Online procedures to nominate the incumbent vice president as the official candidate for the November presidential election began Thursday, August 1

Delegates to the Democratic Party convention, which will be held August 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois, began online voting Thursday, August 1, to officially nominate Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s representative for the US presidential election. Contrary to all traditions, the e-voting process will last five days and become another demonstration of the “unusualness” of this election campaign.

As the American press reminds us, the official nomination of a candidate usually takes place in person at the main convention, as has already been done at the Republican convention for Donald Trump. Democratic Party leaders raised unspecified “procedural requirements in the state of Illinois,” where their convention will be held, and decided to move the voting, which is being held online.

The vote, which includes 3900 Democratic delegates from across the country – locally elected representatives, political activists, or volunteer sector leaders – will last through the weekend and close at midnight Monday, August 5 to Tuesday, August 6.

At the Democratic Congress, Kamala Harris, 59, is also expected to nominate her “running mate” to be the new vice president of the United States if Harris is elected.
