Moscow: US President's statements go “beyond good and evil”
The White House has prepared a new large bill to be paid by US taxpayers. In an attempt to persuade Congress and public opinion in the United States, President Joe Biden, in the second live television broadcast since the start of his presidency, unveiled from the Oval Office a plan for $74 billion to be transferred as soon as possible in economic and military aid to Ukraine and Israel.
According to Biden, funding Ukraine’s military efforts against Russia and Israel’s against Hamas is in the interests of the United States and will contribute to stability around the world. At a very delicate moment, when the US Congress is without a speaker, making it especially difficult to negotiate complex political and financial agreements, Biden tried to explain the reason why the United States has already spent and continues to spend huge amounts of money to finance armed conflicts light years away from the US national territory.
“History has taught us, when terrorists don’t pay a price for their terror, when dictators don’t pay a price for aggression, they cause more chaos and death and more destruction. They keep going. And the cost and the threats to America and the world keep rising,” Biden said, declaring that the sum exceeding $100 billion spent so far, directly and indirectly, to help Ukraine defeat Russia was “a smart investment that’s going to pay dividends for American security for generations. Help us keep American troops out of harm’s way. Help us build a world that is safer, more peaceful, more prosperous for our children and grandchildren.”
Russia’s response to Biden’s statements came from National Security Council Deputy Chairman and former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, for whom the fact that the United States considers financial and military assistance to Ukraine and Israel a wise investment goes “beyond good and evil.”
In a Telegram message, Medvedev wrote, “Biden called money that should be spent on the death of other people far from the USA a ‘smart investment’ (…) That is, investing money in the death of unnecessary people is smart and good. I have no words. This is beyond good and evil,” Medvedev emphasized. “And this is not just the dementia of an old idiot, but the whole philosophy of their state’s life for centuries,” added Medvedev, according to whom the quantity of weapons sent to Ukraine will sooner or later be replaced by quality. “Explosive, cluster, cumulative, incendiary, and detonating shells will turn into nuclear ones,” Medvedev concluded.
Finally, the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, called Biden’s statement, where he equated the actions of Putin and Hamas, “unacceptable.” “Emotional rhetoric is inappropriate for responsible state leaders,” added Peskov. “We will not accept this kind of tone towards the Russian Federation, towards our president,” concluded Putin’s press secretary.
