Trouble continues for Donald Trump accused of stealing and mishandling some classified documents. The former US president, who will face judges in a trial scheduled for May 20, 2024, months before the vote, will have to defend himself against new charges.
Indeed, special prosecutor Jack Smith filed another charge, namely the willful retention of information on national defense. Added to this are two more allegations concerning obstruction and an attempt to remove surveillance footage from his home in Mar-a-Lago. It was in this place that 300 secret documents were seized, thus serving basis for allegations.
Donald Trump, who will run again in the next election and is the favorite in the crowded Republican primaries, explained that this is “election interference at the highest level, the allegations are ludicrous” and added that none of this would have happened if he had not “outrun President Joe Biden in multiple polls.”
Meanwhile, charges are also expected for the former president’s alleged role in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. On that date, pro-Trump demonstrators stormed the headquarters of the US Congress to protest the election won by Joe Biden in 2020.
