The name will be announced August 6 at the Democratic rally in Philadelphia
On Sunday, August 4, Kamala Harris, vice president of the United States and the Democratic Party’s nominee for president of the United States 2024-2028, will meet with candidates, one of whom may join her in the race for the White House. According to the American press, “at her residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, Harris will hold talks with the three main candidates: senator from Arizona Mark Kelly, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Pennsylvania Governor Joshua David Shapiro.”
There are those who claim that Harris has previously met with three other contenders: Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Illinois Governor Jay Robert Pritzker. According to the New York Times, Harris “places a high value on personal closeness and positive relationships with employees and consultants.” The only thing we know for sure is that it will be a white man.
As for the political positions of the three most likely candidates for vice president, the American press emphasizes that they all “have different characteristics.” Mark Kelly is a “swing state” senator and takes a “moderate” position on immigration. Tim Walz is “a fairly new face,” and Shapiro is popular in Pennsylvania but “has faced criticism from pro-Palestinian activists for his apparent support for Israel and his handling of student protests over the war in Gaza.”
According to information released by the Washington Post, profiles of potential vice presidential candidates “have already been vetted by a team of lawyers from the firm Covington & Burling, led by former Attorney General Eric Holder,” and the final selection will be announced at a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday, August 6, after which Harris and her “number two” will tour the country, stopping in all the most competitive states: Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada.
