Minnesota's governor has been selected to address voters in the Midwest
At the Democratic Party convention in Chicago, Tim Walz was officially announced as Kamala Harris’s vice-presidential candidate.
The 60-year-old Minnesota governor was chosen because he complements Kamala Harris and is believed to be able to appeal to Midwestern US voters. This is a diametrically opposite figure than the California liberal and presidential candidate. Born among the fields of Nebraska, Walz was a teacher, football coach, and served in the National Guard for 20 years.
“So, while other states were banning books from their schools, we were banishing hunger from ours,” Walz said.
“I grew up in the small town of Butte, Nebraska… I had 24 kids in my high school class and none of ’em went to Yale.” He was clearly referring to Donald Trump’s vice-presidential nominee – J.D. Vance who graduated from Yale University. “We’re driving down the field… We have the right team to win this. Kamala Harris is ready to lead the country.”
He also thanked his wife and two children (“you are my whole world”) and Kamala Harris: “Thank you, Vice President Kamala Harris, for putting your trust in me and for inviting me to be part of this incredible campaign.”
