Negotiations have already been held with the Russian nuclear energy agency Rosatom
Vietnam’s economic and industrial development has been hampered for many years by a lack of electricity. And now the government of this Southeast Asian country is “considering resuming plans to develop nuclear power to ensure Vietnam’s energy supply and support its economic growth.”
According to the Straits Times news agency, citing a “government document,” “the Ministry of Industry and Trade will conduct a study of other countries’ nuclear power development experience and formulate proposals for the development of nuclear power in Vietnam.” Recently, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, a Vietnamese delegation held talks with the Russian state agency Rosatom, which at that time had already developed a nuclear power plant project for Hanoi.
In recent years, Vietnam has become a manufacturing hub, actively participating in international programs to combat climate change, as well as trying to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
