The first words of the Democratic vice-presidential nominee came from Philadelphia
“I am very proud to be a vice-presidential candidate, and I will help Kamala Harris become the next President of the United States.” The first words from Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’s choice as Vice Presidential candidate, came from Philadelphia, where he thanked those who chose him with lengthy praise for the current Vice President of the United States.
“From her first day as district attorney and then attorney general of California, senator, and then vice president, Harris has fought on the side of the American people,” Italian news agency ANSA wrote, reporting on Walz’s speech. “She confronted crooks, defeated international gangs, stood up to big companies, and never hesitated to intervene to improve people’s lives.”
Walz then returned to a term Kamala Harris has used several times, defining the couple as “underdogs,” meaning outsiders but realizing what they will have to face to get to the White House. “This is not just a fight against Donald Trump, it’s a fight for our future,” with Harris sending Trump the message, “We will not give up our rights and freedoms.”
The same Trump who, for his part, was fast with the comeback, as expected: “There has never been a couple like this. Kamala Harris – Tim Walz will want to immediately lead the United States to communism.” The former president spoke of the “shocking” choice, considering that Walz is none other than a “communist” who will let everyone into America. Trump also talked about Josh Shapiro, the Pennsylvania governor, who was one of the favorites the day before. His nomination, Trump said, disappeared “because he’s Jewish,” so refusing to nominate him was “an insult to Jews.”
