WHO: Hospitals in Gaza Are Battlefields

During the week, 6 newborns died of cold in the Strip

Winter makes the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip even more serious. Seven newborns have died from the cold in the past seven days, with the latest, according to Wafa news agency, was one-month-old Ali al-Batran in Deir al-Balah refugee camp, where twin Juma also died in the past few hours.

Meanwhile, the health situation has deteriorated further in the past few hours as the Israeli army on December 27 began evacuating Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of the last hospitals still functioning.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has spoken out on the issue and explained through X that hospitals in the Strip “have once again become battlefields, and the health system is under serious threat.” Ghebreyesus recalled the gravity of the situation, especially since Kamal Adwan Hospital is not working, and called for the “immediate release of the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya.” The WHO representative emphasized that Al-Ahli and Al-Wafa hospitals in Gaza City were also attacked and damaged.

Ghebreyesus’s final call: “Stop the attacks on hospitals. Gaza residents need medical attention. Humanitarian workers need access to provide medical care. Cease fire!”
