WSJ: “Biden Shows Signs of Slipping, He’s Not the Same Person”

The White House denies it, but the US newspaper has collected testimony from 45 officials

“Biden is not the same person,” and the age-related physiological decline, which has led him to make more than one misstep and show signs of drowsiness on several occasions, so much so that his rival Donald Trump has nicknamed him “Sleepy Joe,” seems to be deteriorating to the point where the Wall Street Journal, in an article titled “Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Slipping,” goes so far as to say that signs of decline are now evident. The New York newspaper does this by collecting numerous testimonies, 45 to be exact, from people who work in state institutions and therefore have had private contacts with the President of the United States, who will also be the Democratic Party candidate in the next election on November 5, 2024.

“When President Biden met with congressional leaders in the West Wing in January to negotiate a Ukraine funding agreement, he spoke so softly at times that some participants had trouble hearing him, according to five people who attended the meeting. He read from notes to make obvious observations, paused for long periods of time, and sometimes closed his eyes for so long that some in the room wondered if everything was OK,” the WSJ writes. Among those interviewed was former Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who explained that he is no longer the same person today as he was when he met him as vice president.

White House officials deny the problems anyway, saying they are just “political” reconstructions. “Congressional Republicans, foreign leaders and non-partisan national security experts have made clear in their own words that President Biden is a savvy and effective leader who has a deep record of legislative accomplishment,” White House spokesman Andrew Bate explained. “Now, in 2024, House Republicans are making false claims as a political tactic that flatly contradicts previous statements made by themselves and their colleagues.”

Biden is 81 years old and is the oldest president in the history of the United States. His rival in the next election, Donald Trump, is only 3½ years younger.
