If we want to look at the future of humanity, then China and the USA, being two great powers, are responsible for global peace, stability, and sustainable development. Chinese President Xi Jinping wrote about this in an unusual letter that the Chinese leader sent to two US military veterans who fought for China during World War II.
The letter is quoted by Reuters. President Xi Jinping addressed former aviator Harry Moyer and artillery officer Mel McMullen. The Chinese leader recalled that during the Second World War, “the people of China and the USA fought on the same side, together against the same enemy,” and “a strong friendship was born in the battles.”
In the face of the planet, the USA and China “are obliged – and it cannot be otherwise – to cultivate mutual respect, to find a system of peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Xi Jinping said, according to Reuters.
In 1941-1942, a group of American volunteer pilots, called the Flying Tigers, were hired by the Republic of China and were very active in air combat against the Japanese Air Force.
US President Joe Biden recently expressed hopes that sooner or later he will have the opportunity to meet President Xi Jinping in person.
“I hope to see Mr. Xi Jinping soon. Over the past 12 years, I have spent more time in discussions with Xi Jinping than many other world leaders,” the US president said in response to a reporter’s question.
For his part, Xi Jinping said he was ready to cooperate with Washington for global development.”
