The former president and his wife Michelle reiterated their now apparent support for the vice president during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago
At the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago, Illinois, it was Barack and Michelle Obama’s “star” moment.
The former first lady and former president endorsed Kamala Harris’s candidacy, dusting off two of the most memorable slogans of the recent past: “Hope,” which the vice president returned to the Democrats’ chances in the next presidential election after Joe Biden’s withdrawal (and to all of America, as understood within the party) and, above all, the famous “Yes we can,” coined for the 2008 campaign, which has now become “Yes she can.”
Michelle Obama, to be specific, spoke of “hope”: “Something wonderfully magical is in the air, isn’t it? Hope is making a comeback.” explaining that Harris is “more than ready to be president. She is one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of the presidency. And she is one of the most dignified.” There’s no shortage of jabs at Donald Trump: “Who’s going to tell him, that the job he is currently seeking might just be one of those Black jobs?” referring to the mogul’s recent outburst.
Barack Obama explained that now that the torch has passed from Biden to Harris, “this will still be a tight race in a closely divided country – a country where too many Americans are still struggling. The people are asking a very simple question: Who will fight for me? Who’s thinking about my future; about my children’s future? One thing is for certain: Donald Trump is not losing sleep over these questions. This is a 78-year-old billionaire who hasn’t stopped whining about his problems. The childish nicknames and crazy conspiracy theories. It just goes on and on. Trump sees power as nothing more than a means to his ends. He wants the middle class to pay the price for another huge tax cut that would mostly help him and his rich friends. He wants us to think that this country is hopelessly divided.” And more: “Trump one of the oldest tricks in politics. We don’t need four more years of bluster and chaos. We’ve seen that movie – and we all know that the sequel’s usually worse.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance continues to campaign in the neighborhood. The Republican candidate’s expressed desire to give a seat in the next government to Elon Musk has made headlines. One of his proposed positions is to head the new Efficiency Divisions, to which Musk responded on X social media that he is “ready to serve.”
