Viktor Orban: European Security Unreal Without Russia

According to the Prime Minister of Hungary, “Russia is opposed not by NATO, but by the United States.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that, in his opinion, “building a reliable system of European security is possible only with the participation of Russia.” He stated this in an interview with a well-known American journalist, former frontman of the American Fox News channel Tucker Carlson.
“My personal point of view is that without the involvement of Russians in the security architecture, we cannot guarantee a safe life for the citizens of Europe,” Orban emphasized. “I try to maintain rational relations with the Russians, especially concerning economy and energy,” said the Hungarian prime minister.
As for global politics, the prime minister said that Russia is opposed not by the North Atlantic alliance as a whole, but by the current administration in Washington DC.
“US foreign policy aimed at supporting Ukrainians is not NATO policy, it is US policy. There is a big difference here,” he said.
Russia’s reaction to Orban’s statements was immediate. The words of the Hungarian prime minister “indicate a very realistic analysis of the situation,” commented Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko. In his opinion, “Hungary is the only country that is not afraid to proclaim and openly and publicly defend its own national interests, as it sees them.”
