Gérard Chaliand is a conflict specialist, geopolitician, and military man with practical experience. Over the past 50 years, he has faced most of the insurgencies in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
He has been a visiting professor at Harvard, Berkeley, and UCLA, taught for 7 years at the National School of Administration (1980 to 1989) and 5 years at the Joint Defense College from 1993 to 1998, as well as at many institutions worldwide (Cape Town, Montreal, Bogota, Singapore, Canberra, etc.).
Author of many works, including the books Strategic Atlas (together with J.-P. Rago) (Fayar publishing house), Global Anthology of Strategy (Laffon publishing house, 1990, republished in 2009), Irregular Wars (Gallimar publishing house, 2008), Wars and Civilizations (Odile Jacob publishing house, 2005), Geopolitics of Empires, from the Pharaohs to the American Empire (Artaud publishing house, 2010), Strategic Atlas (Autreman publishing house, 2022).
Gives lectures at European and American companies.
