Tim Murithi

A lecturer at Stellenbosch University, he directs the Peacebuilding Engagement Program at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation in Cape Town. He has taught at the universities of Uppsala, Bradford, and Addis Ababa.

Head of the UN Training and Research Program (UNITAR) in Geneva, he has served as an advisor/consultant to the African Union Commission on Political Affairs, Peace and Security (CPAPS); in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS); Southern African Development Community (SADC); United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA); UN Special Advisor on the Prevention of Genocide (OSAPG), UN.

Among his books: The African Union: Autocracy, Diplomacy and Peacebuilding in Africa (I.B.Tauris, 2018); Handbook of Africa’s International Relations; Elections, Violence and Transitional Justice in Africa (Routledge, 2022); The politics of transitional justice in the Great Lakes Region of Africa (Jacana, 2016); The Ethics of Peacebuilding (Edinburgh University Press, 2009). He writes for Foreign Policy magazine.
