Campaigning in the USA for the November presidential election is under the lens of fairness. The tug-of-war – whether to pursue Trump or not – is in its early stages, and it remains to be seen which decision will carry more weight in the race against Biden for the White House. Meanwhile, Congress remains preoccupied with further aid to Ukraine, which Biden would like to send at the same time as aid to Israel and Taiwan. The option has been declined for now. Ukraine is under increasing pressure from the Russian counter-offensive, which, however, requires the use of men and means to wage war against the Russians… in Sudan. A jaded country that, in Tim Murithi’s analysis, is being used for yet another proxy war. And in Israel, the logic of retaliation against Hamas and then Tehran keeps the whole country in suspense, as Donald Sassoon notes, because of the dangerous strategies of Prime Minister Netanyahu, who has never ranked so low in opinion polls.
