With the election campaign in full swing, the confrontation between Biden and Trump is destined to escalate. The incumbent is reportedly rebuilding his advantage, but he has to deal with Democratic voters concerned about his foreign policy. Meanwhile, the possibility of Trump winning the presidential election in November worries the political and military apparatus on both sides of the Atlantic. The possibility of a less interventionist president, of the isolationist school, returning to the White House, while encouraging to some, worries many others. What will happen to U.S. commitments in Europe? What’s going to happen to NATO? Will Europeans be prepared to provide for their own security? In the background is the problem with China, which the West believes is doomed to degenerate into a dispute over Taiwan. Whereas in Beijing, the strategy seems to be different.
